A coming of age story about a sensitive, cerebral young boy struggling to survive in a cruel, dreary world. When a miraculous responsibility is entrusted to him by an elderly witch, he becomes both cultivator and guardian of a miniature society of tiny humanoid creatures. They will live or die by his decisions, increasingly strained as bullies, uncaring teachers and other real world difficulties intrude upon the little world which he alone can protect.
